
Meet TAÏRA
The mystery surrounding female visionary and artist, TAÏRA, begins with her name, which is pronounced, “tie-EAR-a”.
TAÏRA did not shy away from taking risks and exploring new mediums with her works, having produced new work even in 2022.
She was born in Russia, raised in Montréal and educated at the L’Academie Julian in Paris, L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montreal, and Chouinard Academy of Art in Los Angeles.
In her early years, TAÏRA was inspired by the works of French Impressionists such as Cezanne and also by abstract expressionists. Working with Karel Appel and Paul Wunderlich, her own visions began to evolve and take on the spontaneous qualities evident in her works.
TAÏRA had a career of considerable excellence and notoriety that spanned over 60 years. TAÏRA captivated her legion of followers and collectors with original, beautiful works of art.

Timeline of an Artist
1960’s
One of the few solo female artist shows in Canada in the 60’s, Taïra holds her first ever art exhibition, a series of still-life paintings on canvas, at a Gallery in Montreal. She later found her signature style of abstract painting.
1963
Paving the way for female abstract experssionist artists of the 60’s, Taïra’s works were showcased around the world. This image, taken from the Montreal Star newspaper covers her exhibit at La Galerie L’Art.
1970’s
Captured in her studio in Montreal for a French Magazine, Taïra’s work expanded into sculpture and lithograph’s in the 1970’s.
1975
Taïra opens her shared studio space with a group of her artist friends, a collective of women designing and collaborating. She is seen here developing one of her lithographs.
1980’s
Taira begins welding scrap metal together to create her own large-size metal sculptures. Emil Leonard Gallery in New York City hosts Taïra’s latest exhibit, a showcase of vivid color and metal sculptures.
1990’s
Never one who minded getting her hands dirty, Taïra would visit scrap metal yards to gather found objects for her sculptural works, choosing to re-purpose discarded parts to create original, beautiful sculptures.
2000’s
Taira’s work as a sculptor continues to recieve critical acclaim and attention from collectors. Well into her 70’s, Taïra barely ages. She continues welding her large-scale sculptures herself.
2010’s
Photographed at her Palm Springs exhibit, Taïra brings a sense of grace and power to her works, using vivid color and bold figures.
Present Day
Taira becomes the first nonagenarian artist to create an NFT of her latest works, accompanied by their physical, vibrant oil on canvas pieces. Taïra wishes to inspire future generations of female artists to explore new frontiers and never be afraid to venture into the unknown.
ART BOOK
Taïra's work has been shown in Canada, France, United States, and Japan. Her work has appeared in over 60 exhibitions in Canada and the United States. She has been awarded the CPE Sterling Trust Award and Art of the Northeast, The Stamford Museum Sculpture award among others.
